4.6 Stars from 7 ReviewsThe Salina Crossroads Marathon is a fast, mostly flat road course that winds through the heart of Salina, Kansas. With a total elevation change of less than 100 feet between its highest and lowest points, the race has the potential of being very fast.
The course is a double-loop on paved roads. Both loops begin and end in downtown Salina. The route takes runners through historic downtown streets, local parklands, and community roadways before repeating the circuit for the second half of the marathon.
The event includes early miles through the historic downtown area, where local music acts, an electric guitar national anthem, and a lead antique vehicle establish an energetic atmosphere. The autumn weather brings variable conditions, meaning morning temperatures can range from cool to warm as the sun comes up over the open stretches of the course.
A practical pacing strategy focuses on locking into an even pace right from the downtown start line to make the most of the flat topography. Because the course lacks any substantial hills, goal success relies on steady effort and managing hydration through the changing morning temperatures.
Don't waste months of training only to run the wrong pace.
