Best Boston Marathon Hotels

Planning where to stay for the 2027 Boston Marathon? The most convenient hotels can fill early. Compare hotels near the Finish Line and Expo, the race-morning bus loading area, and other convenient Boston locations. Book your rooms early to get the accommodations that best meet your needs.


The two locations that are most convenient to the Boston Marathon when it comes to accommodations are:

You could stay in towns near the start or along the course. However, you’ll need transportation to Hopkinton or to the bus loading area and may have to arrange transportation back to your hotel after the race. We do have some recommendations if you want to stay outside the Finish Line or Bus Loading areas.




Finish Line & Expo/Packet Pick-up Area

There is no shortage of hotels in this part of Boston. The Expo at the Hynes Convention Center and the Finish Line near the Boston Public Library are only about 1/3 mile apart on Boylston Street. A few hotels are directly along the finishing stretch, while many others are just south of the Finish Line and Expo.

One thing to keep in mind after the race: runners cannot exit immediately at the Finish Line. You will continue east through medals, space blankets, food and drinks before exiting the secured finish area. Depending on your hotel, you may need to walk another 1/2 to 3/4 mile before heading back toward the Finish Line.

Pros

  • You're in the center of the Boston Marathon atmosphere.
  • Easy access to the Expo and its shopping, seminars and other events.
  • Very close to both the Finish Line and Expo.
  • Plenty of restaurants and stores nearby.

Cons

  • This is one of the busiest areas during marathon weekend.
  • Longer walk or ride to the race-morning bus loading area.
  • Hotels are typically more expensive than in areas farther away.
  • You may still have a fairly long walk back to your hotel after finishing.

Bus Loading Area: Public Garden/Boston Common

On race morning, runners board buses to Hopkinton along Charles Street between the Public Garden and Boston Common. Staying in this area gives you a short walk to the buses and can make race morning a little easier.

These hotels are farther from the Expo, but the Green Line makes getting to the Back Bay fairly easy. Copley and Hynes Convention Center stations are both close to the Expo.

Pros

  • Short walk to the buses on race morning.
  • Convenient to the finish-area exits after the race.
  • Restaurants and shops can be less crowded than around Boylston Street.
  • Some hotels may be less expensive than those closest to the Finish Line.

Cons

  • Farther from the Expo and the center of the marathon activity.
  • You may want to take the T rather than walk to the Expo.
  • Less of the race-weekend atmosphere than the Finish Line/Back Bay area.

A Little Farther Out

There are plenty of good hotel options outside the main Finish Line and bus loading areas. These locations can sometimes offer more availability and lower prices, while still keeping you within easy reach of marathon activities.

The tradeoff is transportation. Depending on where you stay, you'll likely need to take the T or arrange another way to get to the Expo and the race-morning bus loading area. Hotels along the course can also be convenient for family and friends who plan to watch the race.
