The Orange Curtain Marathon offers a flat, fast, and highly predictable course that emphasizes consistency over technical difficulty. It features a certified Boston Marathon qualifying route with minimal elevation change, accumulating roughly 132 feet of gain and loss over the full distance. The primary challenge stems from the repetitive, mental nature of the multi-lap structure rather than steep gradients or varied terrain.
The race operates on a 10-kilometer out-and-back course layout along a 5-kilometer segment of the San Gabriel River bike path, spanning areas near Cerritos, Lakewood, and Long Beach, California. Marathon runners complete this loop multiple times to reach the 26.2-mile distance. The terrain consists of a paved asphalt bike path with a parallel dirt trail running alongside roughly 90% of the course, giving participants a choice of surface for most of their run.
The course is completely open to the public during the race, meaning runners will share the trail with everyday cyclists, pedestrians, and occasionally equestrians. Runners must remain mentally disciplined to handle the repetition of the out-and-back loop and prepare for exposed conditions, potential midday temperature rises, and wind along the river basin.
Don't waste months of training only to run the wrong pace.
Orange Curtain Marathon Pace Bands are adjusted for the specific terrain of the course, your goal time and pacing strategies.
