Honoring Our Heroes Marathon

Rolla, MO
Saturday, November 21, 2026

  4.7 Stars from 3 Reviews

Course Description
The hilly, point-to-point Honoring Our Heroes Marathon course begins at the Commons Fairground in Salem and finishes at the Lions Club Park in Roll. The majority of the the course is along Highway 72 and is almost entirely paved.

"All gave some...some gave all." We are free to run, thanks to the men and women who have defended this great country of ours. Join us for our all-charity event to raise funds for local veteran's causes and to honor those who have served. Our course isn't for sissies. It is beautiful, hilly, rural country, but our course is almost entirely paved. We have a free Pasta Party in Salem at packet pick up; our post-race party is legendary; we are small enough to provide personal attention to each runner, walker, sponsor, and volunteer. Plan to join us!

Heroes and Hometown goodness

Full Review:

2018 had perfect weather 40 to 50 F. This is a point to point with mostly gentle rolling hills, but a couple of hard climbs too. Total elevation change is over 1,000 Ft. It is running up the shoulder of a lightly traveled highway mostly. Run by dedicated and nice people and veterans, thankful to be a part of this.

Race Tips:

Be ready for hill work, train for it as mentioned. The water stops are worth stopping a few seconds for and most had nutrition (chips, fruit) so use it! Free pasta meal and motivation the night before.

Travel/Logistics Tips:

Hotels and motels here are very decent and nicely priced. You will park at the Finish. Get on the right bus to your starting line, this will mostly preview your running course.

Hilly but beautiful

Full Review:

This is a challenging marathon with a smaller field which gives a more personal experience. The volunteers and officials were the best i have encountered.

Race Tips:

There are many hills so work hills into training. The weather can change fast and drastically so have a waterproof/windproof jacket handy. Even when it starts sunny and 65 It can quickly switch to 40 and raining. Expect lots of aid stations, well marked course, best volunteers.

Travel/Logistics Tips:

We stayed at the holiday inn in Rolla which was close to the start. The spaghetti dinner at packet pick up and the lunch at closing ceremonies are great. It was nice to meet the people who made this event happen and to meet the local veterans that this event supports.

Challenging but amazing!

Full Review:

This course is a diamond in the rough. I have run other marathons and have never experienced volunteers or course officials like this. The aid stations were ample and often, the energy of everyone involved was inspiring. The course is a challenge and the weather can turn on you (65 and sunny to 40 and sleeting within hours) but as long as you are prepared, it is well worth it! I will be back for sure!

Race Tips:

Hill training and bring a rain/wind jacket in your pouch!

Travel/Logistics Tips:

We stayed at the holiday inn in Rolla since it was close to the start. The spaghetti dinner the night before is well worth it.
