The Great Augusta Marathon offers a scenic and moderately challenging road race through the countryside of Maine's capital region.
The out-and-back course is run entirely on paved road surfaces. The course begins at The Furniture Gallery, located at 402 Civic Center Drive in Augusta, and guides participants directly north along Route 11. Runners follow this route out toward Belgrade Center before turning around and retracing their steps back to the original starting area. The course travels away from the center, taking participants through a rural, countryside environment.

Because the route traverses an open country setting, participants should be prepared for exposed stretches along the highway with minimal protection from the elements.
