Lovely race

Full Review:

This is a perfect gem for those who like hassle-free small marathons. You park your car about a two minute stroll to the start/finish line. The course is very shady and the total climb is small (416 feet, per my Garmin). (The elevation charts for this race seem to miss the fact that you go through 2 tunnels - the charts seem to assume that you climbed the hills that you tunnel through.) It is mostly on a nice paved trail through woods. Plenty of aid stations. The lantern-lit tunnel is fantastic - a wonderful, weird experience to run through it. The folks from Elroy are very friendly and at most of the aid stations they thanked the runners for coming to their town for the race - like you are doing them a favor instead of them giving up their Saturday to help you! If the weather is cool, this is a very fast race. The last 7 miles are generally downhill and that can help a lot if you have problems with hitting the wall.

This is a scenic out and back route on an old railroad trail. It takes you through one long dark (but lit for the race) tunnel with long, gentle and gradual hills that you hardly even notice. The race is small and a bit solitary, but the volunteers at the water stops are SUPER supportive and friendly. Its a great course with plenty of shade....a great little race.
