The Buenos Aires Marathon (Maratón Internacional de Buenos Aires) offers a fast, mostly flat road course that is one of South America's most popular marathons.
The course is an urban loop that is run on on wide, fully paved avenues and municipal highways. The race begins and ends on Avenida Presidente Figueroa Alcorta at the corner of Monroe, situated in the northern neighborhood of Belgrano. From there, the massive field flows southward into the core of the Argentine capital, snaking through world-famous cultural sectors, financial districts, and expansive green spaces before returning northbound to the starting zone.
The route provides an architectural tour of the city. Runners pass major landmarks including the historic River Plate Stadium (El Monumental), the lush forests and lakes of Palermo, and the towering Obelisco on the massive Avenida 9 de Julio. The route continues past the Casa Rosada (Government House) at Plaza de Mayo, cuts down through the historic tourist district of San Telmo, and turns past the brightly painted buildings of Caminito in La Boca. The route then takes runners north along the wide, exposed waterfront dikes of Puerto Madero.
A smart pacing strategy relies on relatively even pace on the wide, unobstructed avenues to capitalize on the flat topography. Because there are no major hills (only inclines are minor from mile 10.5 to 15), goal success depends on maintaining disciplined pacing and managing hydration to combat the humidity before hitting the open, sun-exposed stretches near the waterfront.
Don't waste months of training only to run the wrong pace.
Buenos Aires Marathon Pace Bands are adjusted for the specific terrain of the course, your goal time and pacing strategies.
