Beautiful, Southern Race!

By about 2021

Review

The race director was fantastic and did a great job keeping all participants in the loop leading up to the race. With Covid, it's especially tough (on everyone), but he had multiple back up plans for whatever could possibly go wrong. Fortunately, none of it was needed, and the race went off without a hitch!! The course was BEAUTIFUL, and the volunteers and spectators were incredible! Even with the social distancing protocols in place, it felt like a "normal" marathon again! There were actually pacers as well, and many people were able to PR and BQ! The weather did get a little warm and humid towards the end, but that was really the only negative.

Race Tips

The course is flat, and you can definitely PR/BQ depending on the weather. 2021 was a little warm, but you never know what to expect in mid-March. The FREE onsite parking was awesome, and there were PLENTY of port-o-potties! Both times I used them, I didn't have to wait in line at all! Things like that are greatly appreciated and help keep runners a little more calm before the race.

Logistical Tips (Hotels, Restaurants, Parking, Discounts, etc.)

We stayed in Savannah and drove down for packet pickup Friday and then race day morning (no issues at all). My one suggestion is to run at a pace that's easy enough to not spoil your appetite for the rest of the day because the restaurants in Savannah are INCREDIBLE! Daydreaming about the food got me through a lot of miles, lol!

Beautiful Course...great support crew

By about 2021

Review

This was my 1st marathon. It was mostly flat with sections of walking paths and bridges over marshes. Beautiful scenery and great support crew. They had bottled sports drinks and water at many spots as well as a Huma energy gel stop. Sunglasses come with a medal and t-shirt. It's a great course!

Race Tips

It gets warm, so lather up accordingly. Drink at each of the stations and if you think you might need ibuprofen, bring it yourself. First aid can't provide it to you.

Logistical Tips (Hotels, Restaurants, Parking, Discounts, etc.)

We stayed in historic Savannah to enjoy the area afterward. Get there early as it's a one-road-in-type situation.
