Approximately 12 miles of the Walker North Country Marathon course is run on paved road. The other parts of the course is run on grass trail, paved trail, and gravel roads.
The Marathon course winds through the beautiful Chippewa National Forest in northern Minnesota. Vibrant fall colors provide the backdrop as runners traverse hills and backwoods bridges, catching glimpses some of the thousands of Minnesota lakes. Less than 5 miles of the course are run on paved road. Most of the course is run on grass trail, paved trail, and gravel roads. The trail is groomed and any obstacles are marked for safety. The race starts and ends at the local high school. The starts is fast as it is down hill, but that means, of course, that the end is uphill.
