The Prairie State Marathon course starts in Independence Grove Forest Preserve before traveling onto crushed limestone paths through and by northern Illinois prairie, forests, rivers and lakes. All courses will be USATF certified. The course is fairly flat with portions of moderate hills.
The course surface is approximately 4 miles on paved roads and the rest of the 22+ miles on crusted limestone paths.
