Real runner feedback on course feel, crowd support, aid stations, and logistics (parking, hotels, restaurants).
Pros:
Very scenic trail. Plenty of water and gatorade. With the small full and half field, there was a lot more comaraderie than usual on the course. With so few marathon runners, each finisher was given a big welcome, since they probably each came in alone. Race day packet pickup was available. With so few runners, you might have a good shot at getting an age group award in either race.
Cons:
The results haven't been posted 2 days after the race.
No mile markers. Maybe 10 total spectators. You might be completely alone for long stretches of time on the marathon - no other runners, volunteers or spectators. There was one intersection on the course that wasn't marked with which way to go for the race, and it wasn't completely obvious which way to go.
Race-day packet pickup process was fairly slow, but luckily there weren't many runners. They at least held up the start until everyone got checked in. The same shirt and medal were handed out for both races.
Great course support, generous water stations, ample parking, wonderful and scenic course, I particularly love the support and encouragement provide by my fellow runners. May be add more porta potties commensurate to the number of runners, also it was advertised there will be GU energy gels but none was offered or I have not seen any, only bananas and gatorade (still very thankful for the hydration provided)
Kindly provide mile markers.
Always helps to arrive at least 30 minutes before the race starts to allow ample time to scope the start/finish areas and to stretch and warm-up
Nice route - shady, wide and quiet. Small field and not many spectators. Would have appreciated some snacks at the finish. Overall a positive experience.
Rolling hills takes toll on the legs.
Course was absolutely beautiful.
Pacers.
