Review
This race is CHEAP, and turnout was around 100 or so. It's also a race with not many frills. T-Shirt, and a finisher's medal (I can't complain!). The CBRC crew who put on the race are no-nonsense people, but VERY helpful and friendly. I'd totally go back and do this race again. We had pressure of not having the race due to a threatening blizzard, but they were very communicative and responsive to accommodate everyone who was traveling far to be there. A lot of MarathonManiacs use this course as their MD race.
There are quite a few spots for spectators to watch, so bring your friends and family.
Race Tips
The mile markers weren't placed exactly on the dot, so use them as a gauge. It was very very cold with a little breeze.
All of the course is on open, flat asphalt with most of the race being on the shoulder when the road gets out of the tip of the island. Near the end, miles 22-25 are particularly banked, be cautious. The "hills" start around mile 16-22. They were not overbearing, but don't burn all of your energy beforehand. This race is best done at an even pace, and turn up the speed after mile 22.
Aid stations were water & gatorade. I believe a few of them had other items like gummies and gels. but bring your own to be safe outside of liquids. All the volunteers are very nice and made each stop smooth.
Stay at the hotel near the Paul Hall Center. The rooms are very nice, affordable, and spacious! The restaurant next door (Ruddy Duck) is pricey, but saves you a bit of a drive for dinner the night before.
There are HOT showers at the Paul Hall center where the race starts/finishes from. Take advantage of this after the race, you will not be disappointed! The post-race luncheon/awards ceremony is also very well done; food is nothing exquisite, but it is very good!
