5 / 5 Stars

This is a lovely, well-managed small-town / neighborhood race that winds through paved trails and neighborhood streets (mostly). The weather can be a little uncertain -- 25* at start this year brrr -- but better since they moved the date from March to April.

The course is two loops. When you reach the halfway point it's a little demoralizing as the HMs turn off for their finish and the field really thins out. You already felt a bit alone on the first loop and now...On the positive side, you will not have to worry about dodging the masses, being in the wrong start corral, etc etc.

There is some crowd support but don't count on cheering masses to propel you through the streets (and lovely paved trails).

In sum: if you're not up for, or would like a break from, "big" marathons, and enjoy running hills with just a few friends, then absolutely check this gem out.

Race Tips

Run by effort. As the elevation profile shows, there's not one huge hill, just hill after hill...after hill after hill after... :-)

Oh and be sure to check out Alan Webb's trophy case in the high school, which he attended when he broke the HS mile record.

Logistical Tips (Hotels, Restaurants, Parking, Discounts, etc.)

Compared to a "major" marathon, the logistics couldn't be easier. Park at the school, where you start and finish. Access to the cafeteria is so huge -- from the bag check being right there to real bathrooms (and showers), a place to sit beforehand and no need to wear throwaway clothes if it's chilly.
