Course Description

Typically cool race day weather and a downhill course make the Redding Marathon a fast possible BQ and PR course. The course is now all paved walking/biking trails.

The marathon starts at Shasta Dam Visitors’ Center parking lot with a quick descent for the first 3-4 miles. Miles 5 to about halfway are flat and then rolling. After ~mile 14 it is relatively flat until the great finish at Sundial Bridge.

Pretty course, good wildlife. However, the aid station fuel didn't match what the website said. In fact, no calories provided in first half of the race. Deceptively hilly with lots of subtle rolling. Still fun though, just tough going.

Race Tips

Bring a couple of your own gu's even if you don't usually do that. Maybe more hill training. Don't expect any socializing. It's a quiet race, and i think often a wet race.
