Course Description

The Cape Cod Marathon begins in the Falmouth Village Green, runs past the Falmouth Inner Harbor, along the Nantucket Sound with views of Falmouth Heights and Menauhant, across Green Pond and through the rustic wooded areas of Davisville and past Falmouth's legendary Cranberry bogs in Hatchville.

The race then turns west towards the Buzzards Bay villages of West Falmouth and Sippiwissett and south through Woods Hole. After travelling through Woods Hole, the race then returns to the beaches of the Sound, past the lighthouse and along the beaches of Surf Drive and then back through the downtown streets of Falmouth to finish at the Village Green.

The Cape Cod Marathon was the 130th largest marathon in the U.S. last year and was the 117th largest in 2014.

Last year 8.5% of finishers qualified for the Boston Marathon and 6.7% of runners qualified for Boston in 2014.

This gives the Cape Cod Marathon the 242nd highest percentage of Boston Marathon qualifiers in the U.S. last year and the 298th highest percentage in 2014.

A mid-sized race (1000 finishers). You can stay warm before the race in a high school gym but arrive early because the school does not have enough parking. Run through pretty Cape Cod towns w/ lots of ocean views and wooded scenery. Water stops are only every 3 miles. I brought a bottle so I could fill up esp during the later miles. Nice expo and volunteers. Cotton long sleeve shirt.

Race Tips

The early miles are flat but then you get a steady stream of rollers that can take a collective toll. Toughest hill is around mile 21. The roads are all open to traffic (even the crowded early miles) and there seemed to be plenty of annoyed drivers.

Logistical Tips (Hotels, Restaurants, Parking, Discounts, etc.)

I stayed about 30 miles away in hyannis port. Arrive early to use the school parking otherwise you have to find local street parking.
