Course Description

The Aspen Valley Marathon course runs from Wagner Park in Aspen to Lions Park in Basalt along the Rio Grande trail. The race starts at nearly 8,000 feet and drops 1400 feet down to 6500 feet by mile 20. The last six miles are rolling to the finish at 6,600 feet.

The high altitude may adversely affect finish times for most runners - especially those not acclimated to the elevation. For those acclimated, this can be a very fast course.

Beautiful course, nice gradual downhill for the first 20 miles.

Race Tips

Be prepared for the last 6 miles - it is no longer downhill and it is very exposed, so it can get hot - especially as the day gets later.

Logistical Tips (Hotels, Restaurants, Parking, Discounts, etc.)

Small, low-key race, not really too many logistics to worry about.
