Great small marathon
By TLO about 2017
This is a very friendly small marathon. It is set on a half marathon course so you run it twice. It's not as bad as it sounds. The course is very scenic. There are some hills, but nothing too hard. Water stops are great. You don't need to carry water unless you want to. All stops have sports drink also, full strength, not watered down. Only negative thing is a lack of crowd support. There is almost none on the course. If you like crowds, you may not like this race. If you just want to run a small, friendly, marathon, then try this one.
As with any marathon, don't go out to fast. Take it easy on the uphills and use the downhills to your advantage. The start of this race is nice because there are only a few runners so you can just run from the very beginning. No shuffling along in a crowd for the first half mile. Hit every water stop, even just to get a gulp or two.
This race has a 7:00 start. You can get there at 6:30 and be fine. Lots of parking, bathrooms, time to warm up and get ready. Binghamton is the closest city with hotels. Vestal and Endicott also have hotels and restaurants. Ask the race director where you should stay if you are traveling from out of the area. Some hotels offer discounts for runners.
