The Surfside Beach Marathon course is run on the beach. Since the course is completely on the beach, it is extremely flat, with little camber, and the sand is firm.
Typically, runners leave footprints about 1/2 inch. According to the race website, most runners are slowed approximately 30 seconds per mile by the sandy course.
The Surfside Beach Marathon was the 538th largest marathon in the U.S. last year and was the 417th largest in 2015.
