The Hatcher Pass Marathon course follows Willow Fishhook road (Hatcher Pass Road), goes over the summit, and finishes within a quarter mile of Independence Mine State Park.
The course is very hilly and is constantly uphill for about 25 miles with an elevation gain is close to 4,000 feet. The start of the course is paved and the last 22 miles are run on gravel roads.
The Hatcher Pass Marathon was the 650th largest marathon in the U.S. last year and was the 629th largest in 2015.
