Ratings & Reviews for the Half Moon Bay International Marathon

review of 2013 Half Moon Bay International Marathon.

5 / 5 Stars

This is a relatively small, very scenic race with a mix of road and trail, with enough hills to make the course challenging but not overwhelming. While the weather has been very good for running in the two years that I've done the race, the course itself is probably not conducive to setting a PR. With the trails, hills, and sometimes narrow paths on the trails with runners going in both directions, it is tough to find a groove and stay at your ideal pace. That said, it is a fun, wonderful race if you focus more on enjoying the run and less on your watch.

Race Tips

Examine the course description and map carefully. In 2013, the course direction was reversed putting the hills towards the end rather than the beginning. Note also that in my opinion, the course description and course profile on the race web site don't really accurately portray how much trail and hills are on the course. This may be because I'm a mid to back of the pack runner. However, I've seen similar comments in the blogs of much faster runners too.

Logistical Tips (Hotels, Restaurants, Parking, Discounts, etc.)

Arrive really early as the roads into Half Moon Bay will get jammed quickly as it gets closer to the start time.
