Course Description

The Arizona Road Runners Desert Classic Marathon course is an out and back on the shoulder of the highway. The first 10 miles are a slight uphill grade followed by 3 miles of slight downhill to the turnaround. Then it is 3 miles of slight uphill grade followed by 10 miles of slight downhill on the return to the finish.

Review

Even though it's on the shoulder of the road, there isn't any camber to speak of, and hardly any cars on the road. The shoulder was repaved prior to the 2013 race which made the running surface much better.

Race Tips

Run the first half conservatively, take it easy after the turnaround for the next 3 miles uphill, and then pick it up for the last 10 gradual downhill.
