I liked the local feel of this race. It has a lot of heart. It mixes city with paved trail so there are distinct sections to progress through.
They also have a big charity influence with the kids cancer charity and giving out trees. This is one of the few races I did this year that I didn't cringe out how wasteful it was.
You start out climbing a short but mighty hill. Don't despair, the whole course isn't like that. It feels harder than it should because it happens right away before you warm up. The only other climb comes with the short stint over the bridge. I really liked being able to go through midtown and downtown. It was a fun first 5k and running along the river is beautiful.
The race is in Omaha and Council Bluffs. You could easily stay on either side of the river and still be close. Although the host hotel (Element) is right at the start - like less than 20 yards from the start line.
