Review
This is a great low key event. The aid stations are run by experienced ultra runners and are well stocked. It is a small event so there is a community feeling to it, I enjoyed chatting with other runners and watching the 40 mile and 100K finishers. They had free beer and a great meal at the finish as well.
Race Tips
The course is technical, there is a section along the lake that is very rocky, but not very hilly. It was pretty dry in 2013 but could be quite muddy if there was much rain. There are enough roots and rocks to keep your mind engaged, I fell twice when my attention wavered.
Clinton Lake is just outside Lawrence, KS which has lots of hotels. Lawrence also has quite a few restaurants, check out Massachusetts Street for good food and shopping. Parking on race day is easy and close to the start, arrive an hour early to watch the start of the 40 mile and 100k. Packet pick up was available on race day.
