Poorly managed race. The start was delayed while they finished building the start line setup. The water stops are very poor and sparely manned. They even ran out of water at the stop at 18!!! Since the water stops are about 1 and a half miles a part, going 3 miles without water wreaked my race. Even at the finish line, they did not even have bottles of water for the runners and instead gave you a cup of water! The food for the athletes was just terrible. Cold breakfast burritos or a baked potato! Nothing to drink!!! Finally, the shirt is not a tech shirt and it says NOTHING about finishing. Overall, for the money, this is a huge ripoff!

Race Tips

Tip One - Don't sign up for this race. Tip Two - Carry a water bottle just in case they run out of water.

Logistical Tips (Hotels, Restaurants, Parking, Discounts, etc.)

The race is held on the pathway around White Rock Lake. The race management did not put out any signs warning people about the race! On race day we shared the course with dog walkers, strollers, cyclists coming from both directions which made the course very dangerous!!!

The course was beautiful until the last few miles. It took us right through a homeless tent city under a bridge. There was no security anywhere. A lone tired female would have been perfect prey by a criminal or crazy person. Then came sections of missing sidewalks, lack of directional signs, and a lonely desolate entrance up the back of Fair Park where if anyone had collapsed, they probably would have died waiting for help. There was nothing left for those who finished the race in the last hour. The walk back to parking was long. There were no medics out on the course. I felt it was a dangerous last few miles. I will never run again and urge others not to as well. For what we paid, we got very little as compared to other races. Race results have been skewed for 2 days as well. Mellow Productions, you failed!

Beautiful Texas spring weather along with lots of fun water stops along the way. If you have crazy allergies, I'd skip this one since the route takes you through very wooded (and pretty) neighborhoods. That being said, if it's your first marathon and you need a lot of moral support, perhaps picking a race with a larger fan base would be a good idea. White Rock Marathon in Dallas is much larger with rock bands along the way and tons of spectators and cheerleaders. If you are a seasoned marathon runner, I've felt after running both Dallas marathons several times that this one is a bit more challenging than WR. (My opinion.)

Race Tips

Don't worry about hot weather if it's predicted. There are many spots where you are covered by pretty trees for shade.

Logistical Tips (Hotels, Restaurants, Parking, Discounts, etc.)

Have someone drop you off at the race. Parking isn't the greatest at Fair Park, despite being the grounds of the Texas State Fa
